Twitter, now known as X under new owner Elon Musk, faced a service disruption this afternoon, causing users to encounter error messages when trying to access the platform. Reports from various websites that monitor service issues indicate that users globally, including those in the UK, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Turkey, United States, and Indonesia, are experiencing difficulties.
While some users managed to briefly log in, they soon faced the service becoming unavailable again, while others noted slow performance on X. However, recent user updates suggest that access to the X social media platform has been restored.
This incident marks the second major technical problem for Twitter this week, following a previous outage on Tuesday. Earlier this week, users in the UK and the US reported downtime on the social media platform, with Downdetector registering over 7,500 reports in the UK and over 25,000 in the US, with a notable surge around 2 pm.
Downdetector data reveals a significant spike in outage reports around 3 pm, peaking at 14,897 before gradually declining, though recent trends indicate a resurgence in reported issues. Cloudflare, an American internet security company based in San Francisco, offers cybersecurity services and safeguards websites from DDoS attacks, where hackers overload servers by connecting thousands of machines simultaneously.
The 522 error, seen when the host website struggles to communicate with Cloudflare’s systems, is indicative of such issues. Reports from users worldwide and websites like downforeveryoneorjustme.com highlight widespread problems in regions such as India, South Africa, Spain, Belgium, and Singapore.
Similarly, the website downdetector.co.uk recorded a surge in reports around 3 pm, indicating issues with X. Numerous reports from UK users and global users on different platforms reinforce the widespread nature of the service disruption.
