Macklemore has confirmed that tickets for all three shows of his newly announced tour, aimed at supporting Palestinian organizations, were quickly sold out. The tour, named the Free Palestine tour, includes October dates in Dublin, Paris, and London. The artist has not disclosed the lineup for the shows yet but mentioned that it will feature him “and friends,” with further details on the performers to be announced soon.
The European tour was announced shortly after Macklemore was removed from his opening act position for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour. Expressing his gratitude on Instagram, Macklemore emphasized the swift organization of the shows and the belief in musicians’ ability to unite in solidarity with Palestine, raise funds, and showcase collective action.
The tour will benefit various Palestinian aid organizations, such as Gaza Soup Kitchen, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA. Despite inquiries about Canadian shows, Macklemore’s representatives have not responded to CBC News.
The decision to drop Macklemore from Sheeran’s tour was influenced by threats from venue owners in the U.S., including Robert Kraft, chairman and CEO of The Kraft Group. Macklemore’s longstanding support for Palestine has been evident in his public statements over the years.
After Sheeran’s acknowledgment of the situation, all other opening acts, including his backing band, withdrew from the tour. Following the controversy, Sheeran addressed the issue during a show in Philadelphia, mentioning his reluctance to be an activist musician. The cancellation of the shows at Gillette Stadium was due to severe weather conditions.
