“John Tory Named Chair of TIFF Board of Directors”

John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tory stated that he looks forward to collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider community to shape the future of the festival.

Tory’s tenure officially commences on October 1, as per a recent announcement. The upcoming festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who had been serving as chair since 2021. In acknowledging his predecessor, Remedios expressed his enduring pride in his contributions to TIFF’s journey.

Additionally, TIFF disclosed the appointment of three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. The organization also bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, extending gratitude for her dedicated service and valuable contributions.
