Millions of Gmail users are in for a significant update as Google introduces the option to change email addresses. This enhancement allows users to modify their Google Account username, the part before @gmail.com, used for accessing various services like Gmail, Photos, and Drive. The original email address will continue to function alongside the new one, ensuring that messages sent to either account will be received.
Google assures users that their account data, including photos, messages, and emails, will remain unaffected by this change. Although this update is currently only available in the US, users in the UK will have to wait for its rollout in their region.
For users in the US, Google advises accessing their Google account settings, tapping on personal info, then email, and selecting Google account email. If the option to change the Google account email is visible, users can proceed to choose a new and unique username. The original email address will be retained as an alternate address. Users are reminded that they can only create a new address once every 12 months, and they are encouraged to monitor their settings for the update availability.
