“I always called my little girl Miley. Just … Miley,” he shared on Instagram, accompanied by a throwback photo with his kids.
Originally named Destiny Hope Cyrus, Miley earned her moniker as a baby due to her constant smiling, a story Billy Ray Cyrus recounted on Ellen DeGeneres’ show.
During this period, Billy Ray introduced his daughter to Dolly Parton, who became her godmother after their friendship blossomed during his time as her tour opener.
Both father and daughter have openly mourned the recent loss of Parton.
On the day of Parton’s passing, Billy Ray Cyrus, now 65, emphasized the importance of family and supported Miley’s decision to simplify her stage name.
