Last summer, a series of wildfires devastated the Town of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove. However, a couple from the Codroy Valley stepped in to make a difference by donating over 450 trees to the community.
Harrison Bragg and Judy Warren, who are winding down their nursery business, embarked on a journey to Conception Bay North to distribute thousands of trees. Despite facing a seven-hour delay due to a vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada highway, the couple persisted and eventually reached their destination, even spending the night in their truck.
The community’s response was heartening as residents eagerly gathered to collect the trees. Bragg expressed joy at seeing the community’s enthusiasm, with Warren receiving numerous hugs from grateful individuals, including a woman who lost her entire garden to the fires.
Warren was moved by the residents’ stories and mentioned plans to replant cedars near the school with student involvement. The couple estimated the value of the donated trees to be close to $9,000.
Mayor Curtis Delaney of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove expressed his gratitude for Bragg and Warren’s kindness, emphasizing that their gesture went beyond the trees. Looking ahead, Bragg intends to send two to three thousand seeds next summer to further contribute to the community’s greening efforts.
The couple’s selfless act aimed solely at aiding the community without seeking recognition has left a lasting impact. Their initiative symbolizes hope for a greener, revitalized landscape in the town following the wildfires.
