“Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk thrives in space mission”

Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk embarked on his six-month space mission to the International Space Station (ISS) 11 days ago. During his first press conference from space on Tuesday, Kutryk expressed his excitement, stating that he is “having a blast” so far.

Adapting to life in space has presented challenges for Kutryk as he relearns basic activities such as sleeping, eating, and using tools in microgravity. Despite the frustrations, he finds joy and fulfillment in the experience, emphasizing the privilege of being part of the mission.

While Kutryk enjoys his time in space, he is also diligently conducting scientific experiments related to mental health and monitoring his own vital signs. This mission marks Kutryk’s inaugural space journey, following closely after Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen’s recent involvement in the Artemis II mission.

Kutryk sees his mission as a stepping stone towards innovation and a brighter future for Canada. He hopes that his journey inspires Canadians to recognize the country’s capabilities in space exploration and technological advancement.

As he orbits the Earth, Kutryk appreciates the opportunity to witness the diverse landscapes from space and has marveled at the beauty of the northern lights. Demonstrating the importance of health maintenance in space, Kutryk mentioned losing five pounds since arriving at the ISS, highlighting the significance of exercise and nutrition.

Onboard experiments, including the Canadian project T-Bone utilizing 3D technology to study astronaut bone health, underscore the focus on astronaut well-being. Kutryk emphasizes Canada’s significant role in space exploration, stressing the importance of continuing the strong legacy in space for future endeavors.
