“Starmer Firm Against Trump’s Greenland Threats”

Keir Starmer has issued a firm response to Donald Trump’s threats of imposing tariffs in response to opposition towards his Greenland plans.

Addressing the PMQs session, Starmer emphasized that pressuring NATO allies who oppose the Greenland acquisition is inappropriate. He mentioned that the Danish prime minister is scheduled to visit the UK on Thursday and asserted that Britain will uphold its principles and values regarding Greenland’s future, regardless of tariff threats.

In a significant critique of the US President, Starmer accused Trump of changing his stance on the Chagos Islands deal to apply pressure on the UK. Trump has threatened to impose 10% tariffs on Britain and other European allies starting February 1, with a potential increase to 25% in June for NATO members.

Additionally, Trump criticized the Chagos Islands deal, previously supported by him, connecting it to Greenland. He referred to the UK’s actions as “an act of GREAT STUPIDITY” and implied that countries like China and Russia perceive such actions as weakness.

During the parliamentary session, Starmer highlighted Trump’s shift in language on the Chagos Islands deal to coerce the UK on Greenland’s stance. He affirmed his refusal to yield to pressure, expressing surprise at the opposition leader’s alignment with Trump’s tactics.

In response to criticisms from Tory chief Kemi Badenoch about his handling of national interests, Starmer emphasized his efforts to collaborate with NATO allies for national security. He criticized Badenoch for lacking judgment and consistency, pointing out her varying positions on Greenland within a short period.
