“Fatal Shooting in Rural NSW Prompts Manhunt”

Three individuals lost their lives in a shooting incident in a rural town in New South Wales, prompting authorities to launch a large-scale operation to apprehend the suspected shooter. The tragic event unfolded when two women and a man were shot on Walker Street near Yelkin Street in Lake Cargelligo, located in the Central West region of the state, around 4:40 pm on Thursday. Another man sustained injuries and was swiftly transported to the hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Responding to reports of the shooting, law enforcement officers from the Central West Police District swiftly arrived at the scene. It has been revealed that the alleged perpetrator, who has a restraining order against him, fled the area in a vehicle owned by the local council. Efforts are underway to locate the vehicle as part of an ongoing search, while a crime scene has been secured, and an investigation is currently in progress.

Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the affected area, urging local residents to remain indoors as the operation unfolds. Additional updates are anticipated to be disseminated by the police as new information becomes available.

Lake Cargelligo, a quaint town situated approximately three hours southwest of Dubbo, boasts a population of around 1,500 residents and is renowned for its water-based recreational activities like sailing, kayaking, water-skiing, and swimming.

Witnesses in the area, such as resident Manisha who chose to withhold her last name, recounted the heavy presence of police cars and ambulances throughout the town. Local parliament member Roy Butler expressed sorrow over the incident, labeling it as tragic news for the community, located around 370 miles west of Sydney.

The unfortunate shooting occurred on a national day of mourning as Australia commemorates the 15 individuals gunned down in Sydney during a Hannukah celebration on December 14. Following the incident, which authorities attribute to two individuals inspired by the Islamic State group, the Australian parliament swiftly enacted new gun control measures in response to the country’s deadliest mass shooting since 1996.
