“Kim Jong-un Smiles at Revamped Spa Opening”

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was captured smiling as he observed a women’s spa pool in new and unusual images. He made an appearance at the official launch of the Onpo Workers’ Recreation Centre in North Hamgyong Province on a recent afternoon. The resort, formerly known as the ‘North Korean Benidorm,’ had undergone renovations after facing criticism from Kim Jong-un in 2018 for its poor management and run-down facilities.

Kim Jong-un, donning a large winter coat, maintained his attire during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and while inside the warm spa building, showing evident delight at the improvements. At the opening event, he expressed satisfaction with the renovated spa, praising the practical and harmonious arrangement of all sections and the integration of architectural elements with the natural surroundings.

In a previous inspection in 2018, Kim Jong-un had harshly criticized the spa, describing it as ‘worse than a fish tank’ and ‘really shabby.’ Following his recent visit, he instructed resort officials to prepare for a full opening the following month. The spa now caters to North Korea’s elite and foreign tourists, particularly from China and Russia, offering week-long tours priced between $1,000 to $1,350, excluding airfare.

Kim Jong-un interacted with the women at the spa pool, maintaining his coat as he moved on to inspect other facilities. The Onpo Workers’ Recreation Centre, designed to attract Russian and Chinese tourists, was officially inaugurated by the Supreme Leader. Images of his tour at the spa were released by North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency, showcasing the revamped hot spring spa that has undergone significant remodeling since Kim Jong-un’s earlier criticism.
