“UK Braces for Heavy Snow: 90 Counties to Face 72cm Depths”

A new weather forecast indicates that approximately 90 UK counties may face heavy snowfall, with depths reaching up to 72cm. This prediction suggests that within the next two weeks, a significant portion of the UK could experience freezing temperatures and snowfall. According to WXCharts, nearly all counties, except two, are expected to be covered in snow between January 31 and February 1.

The weather maps show that the snowfall is projected to intensify on January 31, moving southwards overnight and enveloping most of the UK by the early hours of February 1. Scotland is anticipated to receive the most snow accumulation, with up to 72cm expected in Cairngorms National Park at the peak of the weather front.

Northern Ireland and Wales are also expected to be heavily impacted by the wintry conditions, with only Hampshire and Cornwall likely to avoid the snowfall. Cities like Aberdeen and Dundee in Scotland could see over a foot of snow, while Newcastle in the north of England might experience up to 25cm of snow.

Capital cities such as Belfast and Cardiff are set to be significantly affected, with London expected to have approximately 2cm of snow cover. The impending snowfall will coincide with freezing temperatures nationwide, with most areas waking up to sub-zero conditions on the morning of January 31.

In certain regions, temperatures could drop as low as -6°C. The Met Office’s long-range forecast for January 23 to February 1 also suggests a possibility of snowfall and icy temperatures across the country.

The Met Office often emphasizes the complexities of forecasting snow more than a few days in advance, citing various factors that influence whether rain or snow will occur, such as elevation, proximity to the coast, and precipitation intensity.
