“Trump Threatens 100% Tariff on Canadian Goods”

Donald Trump has issued a warning about imposing a 100% tariff on products brought into the United States from Canada if the country enters into a trade agreement with China.

The US President criticized Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Truth Social, stating that Carney is mistaken if he believes Canada can serve as a gateway for Chinese goods to reach the US.

Despite Trump’s ongoing trade disputes, Canada recently struck a deal to reduce tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in exchange for lower import duties on Canadian agricultural items. Initially, Trump praised this agreement as something Carney should emulate.

However, in his latest remarks, Trump predicted that China would severely harm Canada economically, leading to the destruction of its businesses, social structure, and way of life if a deal is made. He also declared that if Canada proceeds with an agreement with China, all Canadian goods entering the US will face a 100% tariff.

This statement follows Trump’s controversial speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he mistakenly referenced Iceland and Greenland, claimed NATO’s affection for him, and mentioned an attempt to acquire Greenland.

Previously, Trump had threatened to impose tariffs on eight European countries, including the UK, if they resisted his acquisition of Greenland. However, he later retracted this threat after suggesting progress towards a future deal regarding Greenland.

As a result, the US will not apply 10% tariffs on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland starting February 1. Trump had previously warned of increasing these tariffs to 25% by June 1.

After a productive meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump announced the development of a framework for a potential agreement on Greenland. Consequently, he decided not to enforce the tariffs scheduled to take effect on February 1.
