U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the potential revival of the contentious Keystone XL Pipeline project as negotiations between Canada and the United States continue to address looming U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods. Trump made the statement on his Truth Social platform, mentioning that the project, previously halted by President Joe Biden, might be resurrected. Alongside his post, Trump shared a digitally created image depicting him lifting a large pipeline labeled “KEYSTONE” from a grave, with American flags in the background and a headstone reading “Buried by Biden.”
While Trump’s claim regarding the project’s revival has not been publicly addressed by Canada, Washington revealed that it is suspending planned 50 percent tariffs on various Canadian goods for three days to facilitate further discussions. The history of the Keystone XL expansion project dates back to July 2008 when it was initially proposed during the tenure of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and U.S. President George W. Bush. TransCanada, now known as TC Energy, along with ConocoPhillips, suggested a significant extension to the Keystone pipeline, named Keystone XL, to transport oilsands bitumen from Alberta to Texas.
