Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to make a historic bid this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a month. He recently registered for the World Seniors Snooker Championship, where he will compete against other senior players alongside his regular tour engagements. The 50-year-old snooker legend is known for his competitiveness and will strive to claim his eighth World Championship title in his 34th consecutive appearance this spring.
In addition to his traditional World Championship participation, O’Sullivan will venture into the senior tournament for the first time, scheduled to commence on May 6 and run for five days. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has officially announced O’Sullivan’s participation, highlighting him as a highly successful and captivating figure in the sport, headlining what is anticipated to be the most competitive field ever assembled for a World Seniors event.
Joining O’Sullivan at the event will be other renowned world champions such as Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty, along with notable players like Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, and Tony Drago. The event lineup also includes reigning Seniors British Open Champion Joe Perry and a host of other prominent snooker personalities.
Jason Francis, the Chairman of the World Seniors Snooker Tour, expressed excitement about O’Sullivan’s debut in the senior tournament, emphasizing the significant boost in ticket sales driven by Ronnie’s participation. Following the 2025 World Championship, the World Snooker Tour revised the rules to allow professional players aged 45 or older and ranked in the top 64 to compete on the seniors circuit.
O’Sullivan, who currently holds seven world titles, will be aiming to add to his impressive tally. His most recent success in 2022 tied him with Stephen Hendry’s record, and despite a semi-final exit last year, O’Sullivan remains a formidable contender in the snooker world. Hendry has expressed his admiration for O’Sullivan’s achievements, stating his preference for Ronnie to win an eighth world title, highlighting the significance of winning at a young age in his own career.
In a recent interview on the World Snooker Tour podcast, Hendry mentioned his pride in three specific records while acknowledging O’Sullivan’s potential to secure another world title. The snooker community eagerly anticipates O’Sullivan’s performance in the upcoming tournaments, as he continues to make a mark in the sport with his exceptional talent and enduring competitive spirit.
