Sass Jordan, a rock singer from Montreal with a career spanning nearly four decades, passed away at the age of 65. According to a statement from family spokesperson Eric Alper, Jordan died on Friday surrounded by loved ones. The statement praised Jordan as a unique force of nature, radiating light and joy. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
Born on December 23, 1960, in Birmingham, England, Jordan was raised in Montreal. Geoff Kulawick, former president of Stony Plain Records, described her as a fearless and beautiful individual. Jordan collaborated with her husband Derek Sharp on her 2020 album, “Rebel Moon Blues,” and her 2022 album, “Bitches Blues,” while under contract with Stony Plains.
Kulawick, a long-time admirer of Jordan, highlighted her exceptional vocal ability and emotional connection with fans, which garnered her a strong following. Canadian producer and songwriter Derek Downham shared his fond memories of Jordan, emphasizing her positive spirit and humor. Downham expressed deep sadness at the loss of Jordan’s infectious laughter.
As one of the few women in the rock scene during her early career, Jordan played a significant role in paving the way for other women in a predominantly male-dominated industry. Downham praised Jordan for breaking barriers and setting an example for aspiring female performers.
Remembered as a trailblazer in the music industry, Jordan’s legacy as a talented and influential artist continues to inspire young musicians. Downham hopes that Jordan’s memory will be cherished for her leadership, passion for music, and love for her fans.
