“Yamashita Dominates CPKC Women’s Open in Canada”

Miyu Yamashita had a triumphant debut in Canada, securing victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton. The 25-year-old Japanese golfer clinched her fourth LPGA Tour win and second of the year with a commanding performance at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Yamashita finished the tournament at 23 under after shooting a stellar 4-under-par 66 in the final round on Sunday, winning by a comfortable nine strokes over runner-up Yuri Yoshida from Japan, who finished at 14 under.

Expressing her joy, Yamashita mentioned, “I’m thrilled to emerge victorious in Canada. The support from the fans was incredible, and I thoroughly enjoyed my gameplay throughout the week.” Standing at four-foot-11, Yamashita previously claimed victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan and also won the Women’s British Open and Maybank Championship in 2025, earning the title of rookie of the year. She now holds the record as the fastest Japanese player to reach four LPGA wins, with her four-day score of 257 in Edmonton equalling the lowest all-time score on the LPGA Tour.

In the tournament, Vancouver’s Anna Huang finished as the top Canadian, posting a 5-under 65 to conclude at 12 under, tied for fourth place. Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, who finished at 11 under and tied for seventh, was the highest-placed amateur in the event for the second consecutive year. Two-time champion Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., finished at 7 under, tied for 13th, remarking, “It’s fantastic to see so many Canadians at the top of the leaderboard. The future looks promising, and being a part of this feels really special.”

The 17-year-old Huang, who recently secured her fourth European Tour win in 11 months, expressed her delight at playing in front of a home crowd, stating, “Making the cut at any LPGA event is a significant achievement, and performing well at the Canadian Open was truly amazing. I’m happy to have showcased my skills against the world’s best and hope to continue this form.” Both Huang and Deng’s top-10 finishes secure their spots in the upcoming LPGA’s FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.

Meanwhile, world No. 1 Nelly Korda of the United States finished the tournament at 1 under, as Yamashita’s dominant performance set an early pace that proved insurmountable for Henderson and the rest of the field. Henderson, a 28-year-old with 14 tour wins, faced challenges from hitting into rough patches multiple times and needing more successful birdie putts to contend with the competition. Reflecting on her performance, Henderson mentioned, “It was a positive week overall, and I look forward to the next challenge in Boston. I feel confident in my ball striking and aim to capitalize on more opportunities in the upcoming event.”

In the amateur category, Michelle Xing from Ontario finished at 3 under, while Savannah Grewal and Clairey Lin ended at 3-over par, and Maude-Aimee Leblanc from Quebec finished at 4 over. The 2027 CPKC Women’s Open is scheduled to take place at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec.
