Renowned martial arts icon, Bruce Leung, has passed away at the age of 77 due to heart failure. The actor, also known as Leung Choi-sang and Leung Siu-lung, left this world on January 14, surrounded by his loved ones.
Recognized as one of the Four Dragons of Chinese cinema alongside Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Ti Lung, Leung had a significant impact on Chinese martial arts cinema. Jackie Chan, who collaborated with Leung on projects like Magnificent Bodyguards, expressed his sorrow on social media, reminiscing about their time together and praising Leung’s prowess in various traditional martial arts forms.
Stephen Chow, director of Kung Fu Hustle, also paid tribute to Leung via an Instagram post, honoring the late actor’s legacy. Leung, who learned martial arts from his father in his youth, starred in numerous kung fu films throughout his career, gaining fame for his authentic fighting style in the 1970s.
His portrayal of the patriotic hero Chen Zhen in the TV series The Legendary Fok and its sequel Fist of Fury solidified his status as a household name in Asia. After a successful acting career in the 70s and 80s, Leung briefly transitioned to business before making a notable return to the screen as the villain Beast in Kung Fu Hustle in 2004.
The funeral arrangements for Leung are being handled privately by his family, with a scheduled service set to take place on January 26 in Longgang, China. Fans were shocked by Leung’s sudden passing, especially since a photo of him enjoying a social gathering just a day before his death was shared online, capturing his joyful spirit and love for martial arts.
