Passengers traveling from Manchester Airport on a Jet2 flight to Alicante were left astonished as the plane departed without them, leaving them stranded in a stairwell. Despite presenting their documents and having their boarding passes scanned, the passengers were left waiting with no explanation for up to 40 minutes.
Around 35 passengers were affected by the incident, attributed to an ‘error on the stairwell directions.’ Jet2 has issued an apology and is treating the situation as a priority after the group missed their flight.
One passenger, Matt from Denton, shared his disbelief at the turn of events. He described arriving at the airport on time, passing security smoothly, and reaching the gate promptly for boarding. However, confusion arose when passengers were directed down a staircase instead of onto the plane, leading to a delay.
Matt recounted the unfolding events to the Manchester Evening News, expressing his surprise that a headcount was not conducted before the plane departed, leaving many passengers behind. He highlighted the lack of proper guidance and communication during the boarding process.
In response, Jet2 acknowledged the incident and assured that alternative arrangements were being made for the affected customers. The airline extended apologies to those inconvenienced by the unforeseen circumstances and ensured their well-being during the ordeal.
Passengers who missed their flight were provided with a £10 voucher by Jet2 while awaiting further instructions. The situation, which caused distress among travelers, was described by Matt as reminiscent of a chaotic scene from a comedy show, emphasizing the need for improved procedures to prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
