“JD.com Launches Joybuy in UK with Next-Day Delivery”

JD.com, a prominent Chinese e-commerce company, has introduced its new online platform called Joybuy in the United Kingdom to compete with major players like Amazon. The platform, valued at £30 billion, offers a wide range of products including technology, appliances, beauty items, home essentials, groceries, and renowned brands such as Apple, LEGO, Samsung, and L’Oréal.

Joybuy is set to provide next-day delivery for orders exceeding £29 in London and several other cities like Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Oxford, and Cambridge, catering to approximately 17 million people. Additionally, the platform offers a same-day delivery service named “Double 11” for orders placed before 11 am, ensuring delivery by 11 pm. JD.com has established its logistics operations and distribution centers in Milton Keynes and Luton to support these services.

The initiative follows JD.com’s decision to step back from negotiations to acquire major UK retail brands in the past few years. While considering a potential purchase of Currys in 2024 and engaging in talks regarding a takeover of Argos from Sainsbury’s last September, the company ultimately withdrew from these discussions. JD.com aims to establish a long-term presence in the UK, banking on its diverse product range, competitive pricing, and convenient services to attract a new customer base.

Matthew Nobbs, the managing director of Joybuy UK, expressed confidence in the platform’s growth prospects in the UK, emphasizing the company’s commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience. JD.com is also expanding its operations to Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Notably, the company sealed a £1.9 billion deal to acquire the Germany-based electronics retail group Ceconomy last year.
