The upcoming 2026 Cheltenham Festival is anticipated to attract horse racing enthusiasts from around the globe. Interestingly, a growing number of punters are opting to enjoy the festival outside the UK, with Benidorm, Spain emerging as a popular destination.
The festival kicks off at Cheltenham Races on Tuesday afternoon, featuring four days of thrilling races, betting activities, and socializing. While ticket sales are expected to be brisk, a segment of fans is joining a burgeoning community of like-minded individuals experiencing the festival from a different location.
According to reports from The Sun, hotel reservations in Benidorm have surged by an impressive 225% during the festival period, with The Marina Resort Hotel emerging as a favored hotspot. The resort offers amenities like large TV screens, pool parties, and live DJ performances, creating a festive atmosphere for attendees.
Many festival-goers also embrace the spirit by donning racing-themed costumes. In comparison to UK prices, drinks in Spain are notably more affordable, with the cheapest pint estimated to be around £1.70, a significant reduction from the £7.50 price tag at Cheltenham, albeit lower than previous years.
Zoe Harris, chief customer officer of travel agency On the Beach, expressed excitement about the growing interest in the Cheltenham Festival in Benidorm, highlighting the vibrant atmosphere and camaraderie expected during the event.
This trend of a Cheltenham-themed trip to Benidorm coincides with several changes announced for the 2026 edition of the festival. Notably, prices for Guinness and other beverages have been reduced, attendees can now roam freely with their drinks, and overall enhancements have been made to the event experience. Additionally, the reintroduction of Ladies Day and a slight reduction in overall venue capacity are expected to shape the festival’s unique character this year.
