Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian forward has been signed on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with a potential permanent transfer fee of $29.7 million US based on specific conditions.
Union Saint-Gilloise has confirmed that David will be moving to the Premier League in the subsequent season for a record fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old striker arrives at Brighton following a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 appearances and played a crucial role in the club’s first league title win in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union until June 2029.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David contributed a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has also notched four goals in 14 outings for the Canadian national team. Originally born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 squad before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 with FIFA’s approval following discussions with Canada coach Jesse Marsch.
Brighton expressed their satisfaction with the acquisition, highlighting David’s prowess as a striker with impressive physical attributes and a proven goal-scoring record. The club’s sporting director, Mike Cave, emphasized David’s international experience and European competition background as valuable assets for the upcoming season.
David’s career has taken him to various countries, including Croatia, Malta, and Estonia, before his move to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton, a consistent presence in the Premier League for nine consecutive seasons, finished in eighth place in the league standings last season, setting the stage for David to make his mark in the English top flight.
