Moise Bombito revealed that a discussion with Canadian national team coach Jesse Marsch influenced his decision. Despite facing physical challenges, the 26-year-old defender was determined not to miss the FIFA World Cup hosted in his home country. Following an announcement by his club team Nice, Bombito is scheduled for another surgery on his left tibia due to ongoing discomfort.
In a translated interview with Nice, Bombito shared how the national team coach’s appeal for his participation in the World Cup motivated him to commit, despite his leg issues. He acknowledged the conflicting signals from his body but expressed his resolve to represent his country on the grand stage.
After fracturing his tibia in October, Bombito managed to return for Canada’s matches this summer, contributing significantly. Despite playing through pain, particularly evident during the knockout match against South Africa, he persevered to support his team. Canada Soccer has not yet commented on the situation.
Reflecting on his struggles, Bombito recognized the inevitable need for surgery, given his compromised performance and persistent discomfort. He described the constant pain and impact on his daily activities, emphasizing the urgency to address the issue to regain full fitness and contribute effectively.
Having joined Nice in 2024 following his tenure with the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer, Bombito enjoyed a successful first season with 35 appearances. However, his subsequent season was marred by injuries, limiting his playing time to just two matches.
The decision to undergo another surgery signifies Bombito’s commitment to overcoming his physical challenges and returning to his optimal playing condition.
