In the past, fans were captivated by the character Chandler Bing, portrayed by Matthew Perry, throughout the ten-year run of the popular TV show “Friends.” However, following his passing in 2023, many found it challenging to reconcile the revelations of his ketamine addiction with the beloved sitcom character they had grown to love.
Netflix has now announced a three-part docuseries titled “The One About Matthew Perry,” promising to provide a more comprehensive look at the life of the Canadian actor. The series will follow Perry’s journey from a rising comedic talent to his iconic role on the hit NBC show. The streaming service revealed that the show will feature never-before-heard accounts from those closest to him, including lifelong friends and his sister Mia Perry Bowick, a grief specialist who has openly shared her grieving process after his death.
Bowick expressed in a statement that it took time for her to be ready to share her memories and reflect on loving Matthew in all aspects of his life, beyond just his on-screen persona as Chandler and his struggles with addiction.
Matthew Perry tragically passed away at the age of 54 due to a ketamine overdose in his backyard hot tub. Several individuals pleaded guilty to charges related to providing him with the drug, with Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who sold Perry ketamine, currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
The upcoming docuseries on Netflix will not only feature reminiscences from Perry’s admirers but also provide fresh insights into his personal battles, aiming to honor his legacy of authenticity and advocacy. The series is set to premiere on October 27.
