Four individuals implicated in a probe concerning the manufacture of explosives and firearms in London, Ontario, now confront 19 additional charges, according to court records lodged on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. All four were either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the three male suspects having backgrounds in the engineering field.
The updated list of charges presented to the Ontario Court of Justice elevates the total to 31 distinct counts. Some charges are collective against all four accused, while others are specific to individual defendants.
Among the latest accusations are possession of five particular explosive materials, possession of stolen items, and accessing computer data linked to firearm production.
The protracted investigation commenced on January 24 when law enforcement responded to a trespassing incident at Western following the entry of two men into one of the university’s engineering structures. One individual was apprehended outside the building, leading to the discovery of the other three at a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood.
Authorities conducted an extensive search of the dwelling at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, along with two additional homes in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Initially facing multiple firearms charges, including handgun manufacturing and possession of a loaded restricted handgun, the quartet now encounters fresh allegations. Tong, Wang, and Ji confront charges related to possessing magazines and suppressors, as well as having another prohibited firearm. Additionally, Tong and Wang are accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Tong, bearing the brunt of the charges, also faces new counts tied to incidents in other cities. These encompass storing rifles in an Orléans residence, producing a banned firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized site in Quebec. Despite holding a firearms license, Tong’s charges include possessing a firearm at an unpermitted location not designated on his license.
Furthermore, Tong and Wang confront additional charges associated with events that transpired months before their arrests. Wang is now accused of weapon production between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, while both are charged with a break-in at a Western facility on October 9, 2025.
Court records reveal that Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji confront a fresh array of charges for possessing explosive substances, specifically pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. Initially, all four were charged with possessing precursor substances and completed high explosives.
Additionally, all four are charged with possessing Western University property valued below $5,000. Wang faces a solitary count of accessing firearm or prohibited device-related computer data, particularly design files usable with 3D printers, metal milling machines, or similar systems for device manufacturing purposes.
In total, the accused individuals face the following number of charges: Tong (28), Wang (20), Han (11), and Ji (13). The legal proceedings are ongoing, with two on bail and two in custody. Tong did not seek bail and remains detained, while Han was denied bail and remanded in February. Wang secured bail in March under stringent conditions, including 24-hour house confinement and constant supervision by two sureties, each posting $200,000. Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
