In a recent post, Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams expressed their desire to maintain a secure and genuine space on Instagram that accurately portrays their father’s legacy. This marks the first activity on the “therobinwilliams” account since July 31, 2014. The siblings aim to honor their father’s memory by sharing his talent and humor with the world, showcasing moments that brought laughter to many individuals.
Throughout his illustrious career spanning film, television, and stage, Williams achieved fame through various projects. Notably, he gained recognition for his role in the television sitcom “Mork & Mindy” (1978-1982) and starred in iconic films like “Good Morning, Vietnam” (1987), “Dead Poets Society” (1989), “Mrs. Doubtfire” (1993), and “Jumanji” (1995). Recent AI-generated videos featuring Williams have emerged online, showcasing him participating in podcasts, delivering stand-up comedy acts, offering motivational speeches, and sharing thoughts on the dinosaurs in “Jurassic Park.” Many of these videos were produced using Sora, an app developed by OpenAI. However, OpenAI discontinued the app in March due to backlash from families of public figures like Williams, Michael Jackson, Mister Rogers, and Martin Luther King Jr., who were portrayed in controversial contexts.
Zelda Williams, an actor and director, has been vocal in condemning AI recreations of her father. She has urged fans to refrain from sending her AI-generated videos of Williams, emphasizing that such content is disrespectful and not aligned with his wishes. In her recent Instagram story, Zelda highlighted the revival of her father’s Instagram account as a means to combat the misuse of his likeness through AI manipulation.
While actor Matthew Lawrence expressed interest in utilizing AI to resurrect Williams’s voice for special projects, he emphasized the importance of obtaining consent from the Williams family before proceeding. Similarly, Bernice King has spoken out against the unauthorized use of her father’s likeness in AI applications.
The estate of late actor Val Kilmer, who passed away last year at 65, has granted permission for an AI version of him to star in the upcoming film “As Deep As the Grave,” with compensation being provided to the estate for this digital replication.
