Several Taylor Swift songs have been taken down from social media videos shared by the campaign of U.S. President Donald Trump and the White House, which had featured two of the singer’s tracks in the past week.
There was no immediate response from the White House or a spokesperson for Taylor Swift when asked for comments.
While Taylor Swift has not recently addressed Trump directly, she did endorse his Democratic opponent, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, in the 2024 election. During the 2020 campaign, Swift made it clear on social media that she did not support Trump as president.
Trump has been critical of Swift, particularly after she endorsed Harris. He has expressed his disdain for her publicly, stating, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” and insinuating that she lost popularity after his negative remarks about her.
Many artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have also requested that the Trump administration refrain from using their music.
Trump Campaign’s Use of Taylor Swift Songs on TikTok
Over the past week, the Trump campaign incorporated two Taylor Swift songs in their TikTok videos. One video, based on Swift’s lyrics, included a reference to popular songs by the artist, such as “Red (Donald Trump’s Version).”
In June, a video shared by Trump’s campaign on TikTok featured Swift’s new track from Toy Story 5 called I Knew It, I Knew You. The video portrayed Trump engaging with children at the White House, dancing at a UFC event, and participating in a rally, with the caption stating, “Nobody loves our country & the American People more than @President Donald J Trump.”
This marked the third instance where the Trump administration or his campaign had utilized Taylor Swift’s songs in recent times.
