“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Swings to $700M Record

The latest Spider-Man movie, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the fastest film to reach $700 million in the North American box office, accomplishing this milestone in just 13 days. This places it among a select group of only seven movies to surpass this mark in North America. Notable blockbusters like “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Avengers: Endgame” took 16 days to hit the same milestone.

Starring Tom Holland in his fourth portrayal of Peter Parker, the film, a joint Marvel and Sony production, features an ensemble cast including his co-star and wife, Zendaya, along with Marvel Cinematic Universe favorites Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Mark Ruffalo, and newcomer Sadie Sink. The storyline follows Peter Parker grappling with loneliness in a world where Spider-Man’s existence has been erased from memory, leading to his powers behaving unpredictably.

Remarkably, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has not only grossed $704.5 million in North America but has also raked in $1.108 billion internationally after only two weekends in theaters, surpassing the global earnings of its predecessor, “No Way Home,” which collected $1.106 billion. The movie’s success continues with several accolades, such as surpassing “Avengers: Endgame” for the biggest domestic opening weekend, achieving the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history, and claiming the title of the second-fastest film to reach $1 billion globally, just behind “Avengers: Endgame.”

Furthermore, the blockbuster has become Sony’s highest-grossing release in 26 international markets, solidifying its position as a box office powerhouse. The film’s success has sparked discussions about its darker tone and whether it effectively balances the webslinger’s personal struggles with his crime-fighting responsibilities in New York.
