A prominent technology company specializing in AI-powered software is providing a £60,000 per year internship opportunity for high school graduates. Palantir Technologies is encouraging young individuals to bypass university debt by applying for its Meritocracy Fellowship. Successful candidates will engage full-time at the company’s London office for five months, receiving a salary of up to £60,000 on a pro-rata basis.
Following the internship, there is a possibility of transitioning into a permanent role at the company with potential salary advancements, though this is not guaranteed. The program aims to attract individuals interested in pursuing computer science at university. Applicants must have completed their A-Levels or equivalent qualifications by the fellowship’s commencement in October 2026.
The internship is scheduled to run until February 2027. The selected candidates will work on projects that uphold Western values and support critical institutions like the NHS to address their most pressing challenges. Palantir is keen on nurturing young talent and believes in offering practical learning experiences over traditional university education to align with the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
This initiative comes in the midst of growing discontent surrounding the Plan 2 student loan system, where interest rates are linked to the Retail Prices Index inflation plus up to 3% based on graduates’ earnings. Chancellor Rachel Reeves recently announced a freeze on the repayment salary threshold at £29,385 for three years starting in April.
Acknowledging the flaws in the student loan system, Reeves expressed that while improvements are necessary, addressing the issue is not the government’s top priority. Despite recognizing the system’s shortcomings, she highlighted the importance of focusing on reducing the number of young individuals not engaged in education, employment, or training.
Palantir’s Executive Vice President and Head of Palantir UK, Louis Mosley, emphasized the company’s commitment to nurturing tech talent and empowering eighteen-year-olds to enter the workforce directly from school to collaborate with top engineers globally. The company aims to leverage the upcoming British tech generation to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of AI technologies for all users.
