On Holocaust Memorial Day, 95-year-old Mala Tribich expressed deep concern alongside fellow survivors regarding recent terror incidents in Manchester and Sydney, emphasizing the profound impact of these events on their community.
Mrs. Tribich’s account captivated ministers, who were seen wiping away tears and offering a standing ovation following her heartfelt five-minute speech. In a gesture of respect, she was acknowledged for being the first Holocaust survivor to ever speak before the Cabinet in the UK.
Reflecting on her personal experiences at the Bergen-Belsen death camp as a young teenager, Mrs. Tribich shared her memories of liberation by British forces in 1945, underscoring the atrocities witnessed and the importance of preserving the truth about the Holocaust.
Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to address the Cabinet, Mrs. Tribich urged leaders to take action against rising antisemitism, highlighting the urgency of confronting such hatred and ensuring the legacy of survivors endures for future generations.
In response to Mrs. Tribich’s powerful message, the Prime Minister pledged to combat antisemitism vigorously, emphasizing the government’s commitment to address and eradicate any form of discrimination or denial related to the Holocaust. The Cabinet ministers applauded Mrs. Tribich as she left the meeting.
Karen Pollock CBE, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, commended Mrs. Tribich and other survivors for courageously sharing their stories, emphasizing the importance of educating future generations about the horrors of the Holocaust and standing against anti-Jewish sentiments.
