A 33-year-old married music teacher, Naomi Tekea Craig, has admitted to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old male student. Craig pleaded guilty to various charges connected to the abuse at Mandurah Magistrates Court in New South Wales, Australia. She had been teaching at Frederick Irwin Anglican School in Perth and is accused of engaging in “persistent sexual conduct” with the student for over a year.
Despite being on maternity leave, Craig was taken into custody, with authorities alleging that the child she gave birth to was fathered by the student she allegedly manipulated. Following an inquiry, she was formally accused of two charges of sexual penetration of a child aged between 13 and 16, along with possession of child exploitation materials.
Additionally, Craig faces charges of sexually penetrating a child under 13 years old, indecently dealing with a child under 13, and indecently dealing with a child between 13 and 16. Her attorney, Reid Hogan, informed the court of her intention to plead guilty to all counts.
According to court records, the offenses occurred between 2024 and 2025. Tracey Gray, the school’s principal, notified parents about the arrest in a letter, ensuring that the teacher was no longer permitted on school premises and that there were no concerns for the safety of other students.
The illicit activities began in August 2024 and persisted until Craig’s arrest in December of the same year. Police Commissioner Col Blanch disclosed that law enforcement believes the child Craig recently gave birth to was sired by the student she is accused of assaulting, with a DNA test confirming the relationship.
Earlier statements by the Western Australian Police highlighted Craig’s ongoing sexual misconduct with the student, clarifying that she was a teacher at a school in the Mandurah District when the offenses began. Craig appeared remotely and acknowledged her guilt in all charges. Her case has been expedited to the district court for sentencing on March 27, with strict bail conditions imposed, including no contact with the student and no unsupervised interactions with minors besides her own child.
In 2019, Craig married her longtime partner and became a parent in 2022. A police spokesperson expressed the force’s awareness of the distress caused by reports of child-related offenses and assured that detectives and support services are diligently investigating the case to provide assistance to the victims.
