Lloyds Bank customers are no longer able to deposit checks at Post Office locations due to recent changes. This adjustment also affects Halifax and Bank of Scotland, which are part of Lloyds Banking Group. However, customers can still deposit and withdraw cash at Post Office branches.
Reportedly, the banks, serving approximately 28 million customers collectively, removed the check deposit option last month while announcing additional bank branch closures. Lloyds Banking Group disclosed plans to close 95 more branches between May 2022 and March 2027, including 53 Lloyds, 31 Halifax, and 11 Bank of Scotland branches.
Over the past decade, Lloyds Banking Group has closed 1,470 sites, as per consumer organization Which?. To ensure access to cash nationwide, the cash access network Link announced the establishment of 14 new banking hubs.
These shared spaces, operated by staff from various banks on rotating days, offer services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments. A spokesperson for Lloyds mentioned that most customers now prefer using the bank’s app to deposit checks by simply taking a photo on their phone.
Although the exact number of employees affected by the closures was not specified, Lloyds assured that all branch staff would be offered positions at other locations or within the business. The ongoing closure process by Lloyds will see 49 more sites shut down by October, following the announcement of 136 closures about a year ago.
Upon completion of the previously announced closures, Lloyds will have 610 branches remaining. The bank emphasizes providing customers with various banking options, including mobile apps, a 24/7 messaging service, community bankers, PayPoint services, and access to all Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland branches.
