Beauty Bay, an online retailer of cosmetics, is facing the possibility of going out of business after submitting a notice indicating its intention to appoint administrators. This action initiates a temporary legal halt preventing creditors from pursuing legal actions for ten days.
According to Sky News, the notice was lodged earlier this week. Beauty Bay has temporarily taken down its website, displaying a message stating, “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now, we’ll be back shortly.”
Established in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie in Manchester, Beauty Bay offers over 200 brands on its platform, including Ariana Grande, Clinique, MAC, and its own line of products.
Earlier reports suggested that Beauty Bay was exploring various funding options, potentially involving a complete sale of the business. Interpath, an advisory firm, has been collaborating with Beauty Bay to conduct a business review. The company currently employs 65 individuals.
In related news, Quiz, a fashion retailer, has succumbed to administration, resulting in the loss of 109 jobs. The redundancies are affecting Quiz’s head office in Glasgow and warehouse in Lanarkshire. Online orders awaiting shipment will be cancelled, as the Quiz website has been taken offline.
Quiz is advising customers to seek refunds through their bank or credit card provider. Customers who made purchases exceeding £100 with a credit card may be eligible for refunds under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. For transactions made with a debit card or credit card under £100, Chargeback may be an option within 120 days of purchase.
Customers can also exchange unwanted items in-store for products of equal value. Quiz stores will continue operations, with stock clearance sales across all branches. However, the retailer is no longer accepting gift cards.
With 40 stores across the UK and concessions in New Look and Matalan outlets, Quiz’s concessions within New Look and Matalan stores are not part of the administration proceedings.
