Zelensky Calls Meeting with Trump “Potentially Historic”

Volodymyr Zelensky has commented on his recent meeting with Donald Trump, describing their discussion at the Pope’s funeral as “potentially historic.” The two leaders engaged in a private conversation at St Peter’s Basilica regarding a potential peace agreement with Vladimir Putin. Although there were rumors of a later meeting, Ukrainian officials clarified that the discussions took place during the funeral. Zelensky shared his thoughts on the encounter via Telegram, emphasizing the importance of achieving results such as protecting lives, securing a ceasefire, and establishing lasting peace. He referred to the meeting as symbolic and potentially historic, expressing gratitude to President Trump. This meeting followed a previous encounter in the Oval Office, where Trump had made controversial remarks about Zelensky’s negotiating position. The recent talks between the US and Russia, excluding Ukraine, aimed at advancing towards a peace agreement. Despite challenges, Zelensky reiterated his stance on territorial concessions and Crimea’s status. The recent deadly missile strike in Ukraine intensified tensions, prompting Zelensky to condemn the attacks and question Putin’s intentions.
