A woman in her forties was tragically killed on a street, and a man, who is suspected to be acquainted with her, has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
Authorities responded to the incident just before 11:45 pm on Saturday in Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich, after receiving reports of a woman being injured on the street. Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene at Catherine Gardens. A man in his sixties was arrested in the early hours of the following day on Dereham Road and is currently detained, as confirmed by Norfolk Police.
An investigation is underway, with detectives focusing on two locations where a “seal” is in place. Yarmouth Road is temporarily closed from the junction with Pound Lane to the junction with School Avenue to facilitate the ongoing inquiries.
Detective Superintendent Stacey Murray, who is leading the investigation, stated, “We are at the initial stages of this inquiry, aiming to piece together the events leading to the woman’s death. However, we believe this was an incident involving individuals known to each other. We encourage anyone with information relevant to the investigation, whether related to the incident or its preceding events, to come forward.”
Norfolk Police released a statement urging anyone with information to step forward, mentioning, “Following a woman’s fatal injury in Thorpe St Andrew, a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police were alerted to Catherine Gardens shortly before 11:45 pm on Saturday, January 17, 2026, regarding a woman injured on the street.”
