“UK Braces for Heavy Snowfall and Frigid Temperatures”

Various parts of the United Kingdom are preparing for another round of snowfall before the end of the month.

Cold Arctic conditions are expected to return, bringing the possibility of heavy snowfall of up to 50cm in some areas, accompanied by frigid temperatures dropping to -13C. Recent weather forecasts from WXCharts suggest that Scotland, north-west England, parts of south-west England, and Wales could witness snowfall rates of up to 10mm per hour on Thursday, January 29.

This could result in snow accumulations of around 30cm in several regions of England, including Manchester, Blackpool, Birmingham, the Midlands, Bristol, parts of Somerset, Devon, and London.

Northern areas, particularly in Scotland, which have already been affected by Storm Goretti, may experience snow depths of up to 50cm, while the north-west of England could see accumulations of up to 23cm, according to the latest projections.

A considerable drop in temperatures is anticipated, with parts of Scotland potentially facing a bone-chilling -13C. Temperatures across the rest of the country are expected to fall to around -4C.

The Met Office has also acknowledged the possibility of additional snowfall before the end of January. Their outlook for January 20 to 29 mentioned that the UK might experience a clash between Atlantic weather systems from the west and high pressure from the east, leading to potentially colder conditions and a chance of snow across the country.

This follows the recent severe weather event, Storm Goretti, which brought strong winds and heavy snowfall to various parts of the UK, with some areas receiving as much as 27cm of snow and prompting a red weather warning earlier this month.
