Tesco is set to offer complimentary beverages and snacks at selected store parking lots this weekend. The retail giant is introducing exclusive Park & Pause zones in ten branches on Saturday, April 11, where patrons can enjoy a free Tesco Finest hot drink and a biscuit.
The initiative aims to provide shoppers with a moment of respite post-Easter, as research indicates that 42% of Brits seek solace in supermarkets for brief escapes. Tesco representatives will deliver beverages to parked vehicles at the designated Park & Pause spots adorned with a stopwatch symbol between 8am and 5pm.
Data reveals that parents with children under four are most inclined to visit Tesco for moments of solitude, with 68% admitting to doing so compared to 38% of those without kids.
The Park & Pause program aligns with Tesco’s new “Need anything from Tesco?” campaign. This move follows a gesture by Tesco in Kirkwall, Orkney, where excess banana stock was distributed for free to local communities and schools instead of being discarded.
In a Facebook post, Tesco community champion Paula Clarke showcased surplus bananas and encouraged groups to claim free boxes, emphasizing the store’s commitment to community support. All bananas were donated in accordance with Tesco’s community guidelines.
Additionally, Tesco has recently raised wages for thousands of employees as part of a £200 million investment, with hourly rates for shop workers and online fulfilment center staff increasing by 5.1% to £13.28. Workers in London now receive £14.55 per hour within the M25, including a £1.27 hourly allowance.
