“Teen on Trial Denies Plotting School Terror Attack”

A court recently heard that a teenager facing accusations of planning a terror attack expressed intentions in his journal to commit violent acts at his school, including mentioning that certain individuals should be targeted. The 16-year-old from Northumbria, who remains unnamed, is facing charges related to allegedly plotting an attack on local synagogues. Despite the allegations of preparing acts of terrorism, being affiliated with a banned group called The Base, and possessing terror-related materials, the teenager denies the accusations.

During a raid on his residence by counter-terrorism authorities in February of last year, a significant cache of weapons, such as a crossbow, knives, a gas-powered air pistol, and air rifles, was discovered, according to testimonies provided to jurors. Notably, an airgun found in his possession had the words “George Floyd” inscribed on it near the trigger. Additionally, the authorities had to call in bomb disposal experts and specialists in chemical, biological, and radiation threats after uncovering homemade explosives at the scene.

Images of the teenager’s bedroom were presented to the jury, revealing concerning items like a replica SS-style cap, a full-sized skeleton with a mask, and posters supporting the extremist group The Base. Furthermore, items like matches and nails arranged together, as well as a spent shotgun cartridge filled with white powder, were also found.

The court was shown entries from the defendant’s journal recovered from his home, where he expressed strong negative sentiments towards his schoolmates, indicating a desire to harm them. Additionally, the journal reportedly contained a list ranking mass murderers, with neo-Nazi terrorist Anders Breivik at the top.

During the raid, the teenager was in his school uniform when apprehended by counter-terror officers early in the morning. The officers on the scene described the teenager’s reaction as one of shock and helplessness, with the boy visibly distressed upon his arrest.

The trial is ongoing, with the defendant contesting any intentions of carrying out terrorist acts. The defense counsel highlighted the need for the jury to consider the defendant’s background and possible alternative perspectives regarding his alleged actions.
