Recent research by Uswitch has revealed a surge in internet congestion during the summer months as more people engage in streaming and browsing activities. The study estimates that around 9.4 million individuals in the UK are experiencing slower broadband speeds due to the increased demand.
A survey conducted by the company indicates that 32% of respondents face more frequent connectivity issues when temperatures rise.
The research also highlights the cities most affected by this phenomenon, with Edinburgh residents reporting the highest incidence of speed reductions at 26%, followed by London and Plymouth at 23%, and Leeds and Sheffield.
Conversely, Cardiff and Bristol seem to be experiencing smoother internet services.
Ernest Doku, a broadband expert at Uswitch, offers advice on addressing these issues, suggesting steps to optimize internet performance.
Doku recommends conducting speed tests to ensure users are receiving the promised speeds within their broadband package. He emphasizes the importance of providers guaranteeing a minimum speed for their service, especially with superfast broadband products.
