The company responsible for organizing a music festival in the UK has declared bankruptcy due to facing significant difficulties. Solfest, a music and arts festival located on the Solway coast near Silloth, Cumbria, was founded in 2004 and has featured performances from various artists over the years, including The Charlatans, James, The Fratellis, Supergrass, The Levellers, and The Proclaimers.
The most recent edition of the festival occurred in August 2025 with headline acts The Doves and Leftfield. However, the organizers of Solfest have officially announced the company’s liquidation. The status of tickets purchased for Solfest 2026, scheduled for August 27 to 30, remains uncertain as ticket sales for the 2026 event began in September.
Solfest has encountered challenges in the past, as it was canceled in 2014 due to financial issues. Additionally, warnings were issued in 2018 and 2019 that the festival might be permanently discontinued.
In a recent statement, the company attributed its liquidation to various factors such as adverse weather conditions, debts, and declining ticket sales. The statement expressed regret for the impact on ticket-holders, artists, traders, suppliers, staff, volunteers, and the local community, emphasizing the difficulty of the decision.
The organizers acknowledged the contributions of everyone involved in Solfest over the past two decades and highlighted the festival’s community-oriented foundation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
