“Soccer Fans Demand FIFA President Infantino’s Resignation”

A global coalition of soccer fan organizations initiated a petition on Thursday demanding the resignation of Gianni Infantino from his position as FIFA president following his proposal to sell off future World Cup revenues to private investors. The petition, identified by the hashtag InfantinOut, also advocates for a reconstruction of FIFA to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The petition criticized Infantino for his failed attempt to commercialize the World Cup, labeling it as a betrayal that will not be forgotten by the football community. Despite facing backlash, Infantino has refused to step down, even as UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation have expressed their lack of confidence in him.

The fan groups involved in the petition include Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa, the Independent Supporters Council in North America, and approximately 40 national fan groups worldwide. They emphasized Infantino’s leadership failures, lack of transparency, and controversial decisions such as supporting the European Super League and advocating for biennial World Cup tournaments.

The petition concluded by calling for Infantino’s resignation to restore FIFA’s credibility and ensure the integrity of the sport. It highlighted the necessity of accountability and democratic governance within the organization to regain trust in the global governing body.
