“Snooker Legend Ronnie O’Sullivan Sets Record with 153 Break”

Ronnie O’Sullivan, the renowned snooker legend, made history by achieving the highest break ever recorded in a professional snooker match, scoring an impressive 153 against his opponent Ryan Day. Competing in the World Open in Yushan, China, O’Sullivan showcased exceptional form, securing victories over Matthew Selt and Shaun Murphy to advance to the quarter-final clash with Day.

During the match, commonly known as ‘The Rocket,’ O’Sullivan set a new record by starting the game with a remarkable 153 break in the opening frame against Day, surpassing the previous record of 148 held by Jamie Burnett. The 50-year-old executed a flawless 16-red clearance after being granted a free ball earlier in the frame, displaying impeccable skill in clearing the table.

O’Sullivan’s break began with potting the green as the 16th red, with the possibility of achieving a total maximum of 155. Despite a slight deviation on one shot, O’Sullivan continued his run and settled for the pink instead of aiming for the black ball. With precision and composure, he potted the final six colours after reaching 146, ultimately securing the historic 153 break.

Although Day acknowledged O’Sullivan’s exceptional feat by applauding him, the latter seemed almost stunned by his achievement, leaving commentators, including Neal Foulds, amazed. Foulds described the moment as “mind-blowing” and emphasized the significance of O’Sullivan’s breaking record.

This remarkable accomplishment by O’Sullivan surpassed Burnett’s previous record and marked a pivotal moment in the 2025/26 season for the snooker legend. Currently leading 4-0 against Day in the World Open, O’Sullivan is on the verge of securing a spot in the semi-final, showcasing his dominance on the snooker table.
