Christine McGuinness is currently embroiled in a legal dispute over her attempt to trademark a term for her upcoming cosmetics line. The 37-year-old star from The Real Housewives of Cheshire is in the process of divorcing her husband, TV personality Paddy McGuinness, and is preparing to launch a beauty line named Goddess by Christine McGuinness, which she sought to trademark.
However, her plans have hit a snag as US company Alo Yoga, known for its association with celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber, has filed objections to her trademark application in the UK. Alo Yoga, a sportswear giant valued at $10 billion (£7.54bn), already uses the term “Goddess” for its range of tops and leggings and is seeking to block Christine from using the same term.
Despite the opposition, Christine remains undeterred, and her legal team is working on resolving the issue with Alo Yoga. This development follows Christine’s decision to pivot from expanding her fitness range due to lackluster sales. Amid her divorce from Paddy and the distress of selling their family home, Christine is determined to succeed in her new business ventures.
In the midst of their 11-year marriage coming to an end in June 2022, Christine and Paddy are now in the process of selling their £6.5 million estate for the sake of their children. Christine recently expressed difficulty in managing the £300,000 divorce bill she is facing, while Paddy disclosed financial struggles prompting him to go on tour for additional income.
Reportedly, Paddy is currently shouldering all household expenses, including Christine’s car payments. Christine, deeply affected by the sale of their family home, acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the situation. Additionally, she highlighted the financial strain of the divorce, mentioning the challenges of covering expenses, including legal fees.
Contrary to Christine’s claims, a source revealed that her legal expenses were closer to £70,000 rather than the previously stated figure. The source clarified that the costs would have escalated significantly if the case had proceeded to a full court trial, which did not occur.
