“Puccini, Popular Celebrity Hangout, Closes After 40 Years”

A well-known restaurant frequented by sports stars and celebrities is closing down after more than 40 years in operation. Puccini, established in Swinton, Greater Manchester in 1982 and run by Michele Pucci since 1990, is facing closure due to declining business, staffing challenges, and high expenses exacerbated by the pandemic.

Michele, aged 65, expressed regret over the closure, attributing it to the dwindling trade in Swinton and the lack of support from local authorities and the landlord. Despite efforts to sustain the business, the current circumstances have made it unsustainable to continue operating.

Over the years, Puccini, affectionately known as Puccinis locally, has been a popular spot for sports teams and notable figures such as the England football squad, Manchester United players Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, and Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone. However, changing demographics and economic challenges have contributed to the restaurant’s struggles.

Recruitment challenges, worsened by Brexit and post-pandemic job shifts, have also impacted the business. Michele highlighted the demanding nature of the catering industry and the difficulty in finding trained staff willing to commit to the job’s requirements.

Despite his dedication to the restaurant and its charitable endeavors, Michele has decided to prioritize his health and informed his team that the establishment will not reopen. Approximately 15 jobs will be affected by the closure, prompting him to support his wife in launching a new coffee shop and wine bar in the area.

While plans for the future of the restaurant building remain uncertain, Salford council emphasized the need for investment and regeneration in Swinton to unlock its potential. The council’s focus on revitalizing town centers like Swinton underscores its commitment to strategic development in collaboration with the community.
