A man was discovered deceased on the roadside following a brutal attack by his own pet dog during a walk. Authorities reported that the 33-year-old victim was found lifeless in a ditch in Lohne, Germany, with his dog standing guard over him as medical personnel arrived at the scene.
The dog, identified as an American Bulldog, exhibited injuries consistent with a dog attack during a postmortem examination. Investigators now suspect that the man’s own pet was responsible for his demise. The dog has been seized and is currently undergoing evaluation at an animal shelter. Emergency responders faced challenges in assisting the man due to the dog’s protective behavior.
Vanessa Bokr, a canine expert, suggested that the dog may have turned aggressive towards its owner after being prevented from pursuing something. American Bulldogs, an ancient breed distinct from the banned XL Bully in the UK, have been associated with several fatal incidents in the US, Europe, and Britain in recent years.
In a tragic event over the weekend, a toddler was fatally attacked in the US after entering an American Bulldog enclosure at his grandmother’s residence. Three-year-old Beckett Brown sustained fatal injuries after accessing the outdoor dog pen in New York Mills, Minnesota. Despite efforts to save him, Beckett succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. The grandmother also suffered injuries while intervening in the attack, and the dog was euthanized upon the family’s request.
A separate incident in the United Kingdom involved a baby needing urgent surgery after being bitten on the face by the family’s American Bulldog. South Yorkshire Police reported that the one-year-old sustained severe facial injuries during the attack in Doncaster’s Hyde Park area. The dog, which had previously shown aggression towards the infant, is currently under assessment at a kennel pending further investigation.
