“NATO Nations Blast Trump’s Greenland Tariff Threats”

NATO nations, including the United Kingdom, have criticized President Donald Trump for jeopardizing relations with his threats of imposing tariffs on countries over Greenland. The US President has warned of imposing 10% tariffs on countries, including the UK, if they oppose his bid to acquire Greenland and has threatened to raise tariffs on NATO allies to 25% by June 1 if a deal is not reached.

Cabinet ministers, led by Keir Starmer, have condemned the move as “completely inappropriate.” In a joint statement, several NATO countries, including Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the UK, have responded to the threats. They emphasized their commitment to Arctic security as a mutual transatlantic concern and expressed solidarity with Denmark and Greenland.

The countries stated, “Tariff threats undermine transatlantic relations and pose a risk of escalation. We remain united in our response and steadfast in upholding our sovereignty.” Despite Trump’s threats, the UK’s Culture Secretary, Lisa Nandy, affirmed that the UK’s stance on Greenland is firm and non-negotiable. She emphasized that the future of Greenland should be determined by the people of Greenland and Denmark.

Nandy highlighted the importance of the UK’s relationship with the US and emphasized that the UK’s position on Greenland will not change. French President Emmanuel Macron and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson have also rejected intimidation and blackmail tactics. Emergency talks have been called by EU ambassadors in response to the escalating tensions.
