The mother of a teenage girl who was hit by a car while lying on a dark country road has expressed her determination to seek justice 26 years after the tragic incident occurred.
Lizzie Gilmour, a talented singer, tragically lost her life in January 2000 on a ring road in York under mysterious circumstances. The 15-year-old, who was last seen distressed and crying in the back of a car, was found lying on the road and was hit by a car around 8.20pm, resulting in her death from multiple injuries.
Her mother believes that Lizzie may have been abducted that night and suspects that there are individuals withholding information about the events leading to her daughter’s demise. Despite speculations, the police concluded that the car driver was not at fault, as evidence indicated that the driver was not speeding and could not have avoided the collision.
The coroner recorded an open verdict during the inquest due to the numerous unanswered questions surrounding the circumstances of Lizzie’s death. It was mentioned that the teenager, described as sensible and level-headed, likely did not intend to take her own life.
Lizzie’s mother, Rose Ozturkce, is resolute in her pursuit of justice and is appealing for anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. She firmly believes that Lizzie did not die by suicide and urges individuals to provide any relevant details to bring closure to the family.
Described as a talented young woman with a bright future, Lizzie’s untimely death has left a void in her family’s lives. Her mother fondly remembers her as a beautiful and gifted individual with a heart of gold, emphasizing that the pain of losing a child is everlasting.
North Yorkshire Police had previously investigated the case and stated their willingness to reexamine it if new information surfaces, particularly regarding individuals who may have been with Lizzie before her tragic death.
