Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been in touch with former driver Lewis Hamilton to provide assistance during a tough season with Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adjust to the team, dealing with a car that’s not performing well and questionable race tactics.
Hamilton’s challenges were highlighted at the last Grand Prix in Qatar, where he was knocked out in Q1 of qualifying and, despite a comeback attempt during the race, finished outside the points in 12th position. Currently, the British driver is in sixth place in the drivers’ standings and risks dropping to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing his discontent with how his debut season at Ferrari has unfolded, Hamilton has openly shared his frustration, considering 2025 as his “worst season ever” despite giving his all on and off the track.
Throughout the season, Hamilton’s struggles have been apparent, but his former team, Mercedes, has extended personal support. Bradley Lord, Mercedes’ chief communications officer, disclosed that efforts have been made to aid Hamilton during this challenging phase, with Wolff even accompanying him to race events.
In a statement to CHAMP1, Lord mentioned, “We empathize with him on a human level, knowing the dedication and effort Lewis puts into his work. Every driver faces highs and lows, or periods of struggle, and it’s affecting him deeply.”
“We aim to support him in our capacity, with Toto often by his side at races, engaging in discussions to uplift him. We believe in Lewis Hamilton’s potential to excel and hope he can bounce back stronger from this experience,” Lord added.
Looking ahead to the final race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton is gearing up to defend his sixth position in the drivers’ standings, holding 152 points for the season, closely pursued by Kimi Antonelli with 150 points.
This upcoming race marks the end of Hamilton driving the current Ferrari model, which has posed numerous challenges. Instead of participating in the first practice session, Arthur Leclerc, Charles’ brother, will take his place.
Despite the somber mood, team principal Fred Vasseur has motivated his team to strive for a return to success. Following the Qatar Grand Prix, Vasseur emphasized the need for the team to stay focused and make the most of their resources.
Ferrari is eager to conclude the season positively before shifting their attention entirely to the 2026 campaign.
