Maya Jama Claps Back at “Turkey Teeth” Criticism

Maya Jama has responded to a critical social media comment about her appearance following the premiere of the latest season of Love Island All Stars. The 30-year-old host was surprised when a viewer made a negative remark about her “turkey teeth.”

Currently, Maya is hosting the newest installment of Love Island: All Stars, where former contestants travel to South Africa for another shot at love. This season features returning favorites like Whitney Adebayo and Millie Court. Additionally, Maya is set to appear in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen sequel and will serve as a judge on The Masked Singer.

Responding to the criticism on Twitter, Maya clarified that she has braces to straighten her teeth and was unbothered by previous comments about her teeth. The online conversation sparked various reactions from fans, with some supporting Maya and others questioning the term “turkey teeth.”

Maya underwent a procedure to have lingual braces fitted before Love Island: All Stars began. The treatment, which starts at around £6,000, offers discreet alignment from behind the teeth while preserving the natural smile. Dr. Rhona from the Chelsea Dental clinic explained that lingual braces provide precise tooth control invisibly.

Dr. Annika Patel, overseeing Maya’s treatment, highlighted the popularity of lingual braces for individuals seeking effective orthodontic solutions without visible braces. Maya began her treatment in October 2025, with an average duration of 12 to 18 months depending on the complexity of the case.

Despite the online scrutiny, Maya expressed contentment with her smile, emphasizing that it is impossible to please everyone. She recently addressed an AI chatbot’s alterations to her images and urged for respect regarding image manipulation issues she has faced in the past.

Maya, with nearly 700,000 followers on social media, firmly stated her stance on unauthorized image edits and the importance of distinguishing genuine content from AI-generated material. She shared a past incident involving manipulated images and expressed concerns about the evolving online landscape.

Love Island: All Stars airs on ITV2 and ITVX at 9 pm. For more entertainment news, follow Mirror Celebs on various social media platforms.
