Sky Q remains a popular TV device in the UK, known for its ability to store content on its internal hard drive. After more than a decade, it continues to be a favored choice for households. However, a new competitor has entered the scene with a unique advantage.
Manhattan’s TV Team has introduced the S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder, a device similar to Sky Q in functionality. This set-top box utilizes a dish to deliver TV shows and movies to homes, offering recording capabilities with internal storage. Users benefit from a comprehensive interactive TV guide and the ability to pause live TV.
The standout feature of the Manhattan S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder is its absence of subscription fees post-purchase, providing access to over 100 TV and radio channels without additional costs. While premium channels like Sky Sports and Sky Cinema are not included, this device caters to those seeking entertainment without ongoing fees.
Similar to Sky Q, the S4-R enables simultaneous recording of multiple channels and comes with a 500GB hard drive, offering storage for approximately 300 hours of content. Larger 1TB and 2TB versions are in the pipeline for users requiring more space. Additionally, it mirrors Sky’s live TV controls, allowing viewers to pause and rewind broadcasts.
Manhattan promises a user-friendly interface for the S4-R, complete with search functionality and access to a vast library of on-demand content through various apps such as BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5, totaling over 60,000 hours of content.
Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering a subscription-free experience with the S4-R. He highlighted the device’s enhanced recording capabilities, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings, double the previous capacity.
Positioned as a compelling alternative to subscription-based TV services, the S4-R offers viewers increased flexibility, choice, and a cost-effective solution to monthly bills.
The Manhattan S4-R is set to launch this month and will be sold at retailers like Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds. Pricing starts at £219.99 for the 500GB model, with the 1TB version priced at £249.99 in May, and the 2TB model costing £279.99 upon its release in June.
