“Man Fatally Shot by Police During Bow and Arrow Confrontation”

A man was fatally shot by police officers after he brandished a bow and arrow at them. The incident occurred during a welfare check at a residence on Quia Road in Gunnedah, located approximately 450km northwest of Sydney. Upon police arrival, the man confronted the officers with the weapon, prompting them to seek cover inside their vehicle.

In response to the threat, the officers discharged a firearm, resulting in the man sustaining a fatal gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention from NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Subsequently, a critical incident investigation has been initiated by the authorities to probe the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The investigative process will be led by a critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad. The Professional Standards Command will review the investigation, overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
